History

January 2, 1919, is the date of the establishment of Henderson Chapel (Pin Hook Church). It was a Baptist denomination. On October 9, 1919, a deed for the church property was signed, and written record-keeping for the church began on October 31, 1919.

In the mid-1920s the original Henderson Chapel Church burned. Until a new church could be built the members attended other churches in the conference. Around 1930 one (1) acre of land where the current church sits today was donated /given by Mr. G.B.D Parker and his wife. The original church was approximately 26 feet by 30 feet and is still part of our church facilities today.

For forty (40) years the church was working on construction projects to add to the original church structure. Through all the construction phases of the church, the men and women of the church primarily did the work. Some people were hired but many times there was no money to hire anyone. The name of the church was changed a couple of times over the span of time.

(In 1996 the church changed its name again and became The Church at Pin Hook. The church is an Independent Pentecostal church fellowship. That same year a new, larger sanctuary was built that would seat approximately three hundred and fifty (350) people.  On January 4, 1997, the first service was held in the new sanctuary, and the sanctuary was dedicated to God on January 26, 1997. The church can never forget that the ancestors paved the way for this to happen, nor thank the Lord enough for blessing the people to dedicate a new sanctuary to Him.

Another dream of the membership was to build a facility that would accommodate the growing needs of the youth as well as the adults of the church and community. In 2000, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a 130’ X 160’, two-story Family Life Center. April 10, 2001, a 3.46 acres piece of land was purchased to accommodate parking and outdoor activities for the new facility.

In April 2004, the ground floor was completed on the Family Life Center. It was also opening day for the Pin Hook Day Care which could accommodate seventy (70) children. It is and was the goal of the church to provide Christian education to the children of our area and impact the lives of the parents.

In addition to the daycare, the Family Life Center is a multi-purpose facility. It contains a full-size commercial kitchen, handicapped bathrooms with full shower facilities, a baptistery, a full-size gymnasium with a large stage for church productions, a library, and offices.

In 2015 construction began on the upstairs, right side of the Family Life Center.  It consists of classrooms, a music room, storage, bathroom facilities, and an “Elijah Room” for possible traveling ministers. That same year a breezeway was built to connect the Fellowship Hall to the Family Life Center.

God has truly blessed our small corner of the world in Pin Hook. As we look back over such a span of time and all its construction, we realize that God has directed the path of The Church at Pin Hook and its members. We have been blessed to touch thousands of lives and are eternally grateful for this.
